Krispy Kreme has announced it is making delivery available from nearly all its stores in the United States. Delivery service will start Saturday, Feb. 29, and Krispy Kreme plans to celebrate the Leap Day occasion by delivering free doughnuts to dozens of hospitals.

The brand says: “Hospitals within 10 miles of most Krispy Kreme shops can post on social media when a baby is delivered, citing the hospital, tagging @KrispyKreme and using #KrispyKremeSpecialDelivery.” Krispy Kreme will deliver five dozen free doughnuts for families and hospital staff throughout the day.

“Krispy Kreme doughnut delivery is pretty sweet, and so are Leap Day babies,” Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a company release. “Using 2020’s extra day to make the leap to national delivery, while celebrating Leap Day babies, will be a fun moment for our brand and fans.”

Ordering doughnuts for delivery can be done through the brand’s website or via the Krispy Kreme app. DoorDash will deliver doughnuts by the dozen and boxed coffee, with a $4.99 delivery fee from most locations, according to USA Today.

Krispy Kreme is the latest addition to the list of options DoorDash has for its food delivery service. Over the past few months, DoorDash has announced it will deliver food from Cheesecake Factory, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Five Guys, Little Caesars, and others.

The national rollout of delivery service comes after Krispy Kreme tested online ordering and delivery in select U.S. markets starting as far back as 2018. The brand also says delivery range will vary by location for its 350 stores across 42 states.

Krispy Kreme indicates that each online order placed through the website or the mobile app will be eligible to earn rewards points. Meanwhile, the company says the capability to use rewards for online and delivery orders is coming soon.

Krispy Kreme, which was founded in 1937, is headquartered in Winston-Salem, N.C. The brand has nearly 1,400 retail shops in 33 countries, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts are sold in approximately 12,000 grocery, convenience and mass merchant stores in the U.S.

It will be interesting to see if offering delivery proves to be a great way to further enhance the connection between Krispy Kreme and its loyal fans.
