Dollar Tree and Family Dollar Donated $2.7 Million to Charitable Partners in 2020
Dollar Tree, along with financial contributions from its associates through its inaugural ‘Choose to Give’ workplace giving campaign, donated $2.7 million in 2020 to the Company’s three largest philanthropic partnerships: Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Operation Homefront, and United Way of South Hampton Roads (UWSHR). Additionally, vendor partners and customers donated millions of dollars throughout the year to the charitable partners, including a $1 million gift from The Coca-Cola Company.

“The communities we serve will always be at the heart of everything we do. Our partnerships with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Operation Homefront, and United Way of South Hampton Roads have helped Dollar Tree and Family Dollar give back to our customers, youth, and neighbors,” said Michael Witynski, Dollar Tree’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “During these uncertain times and in the face of adversity, I have been inspired by the countless stories of how these organizations have provided aid to the public when they needed it most.

This critical support empowers our shared communities to continue to grow and prosper.”
 
Sierra Nevada Partners With American Recycling for Largest Brewery Recycling Cooperative
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and American Recycling of Western North Carolina (WNC) announced the formation of the Western North Carolina Brewery Recycling Cooperative and the upcoming opening of a new recycling drop-off site near Asheville. The cooperative and the new drop-off site, which is set to open in the coming months, will create infrastructure for the area’s 80+ breweries to recycle common industry wastes currently going to landfill.

“The cooperative is an effort to pool resources and leverage our shared economy of size to make a real difference in the community,” said Leah Cooper, Sustainability Program Manager at Sierra Nevada.
 
Nickelodeon Is Opening Its First Resort In Mexico This Summer
Mexico is about to get a lot of Nickelodeon. Karisma Hotels & Resorts announced that it will be opening a Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts in Riviera Maya, Mexico, in June.

The resort will be the first Nickelodeon resort in the country and will have one of Mexico’s largest water parks, according to the announcement. Tickets for the family-friendly resort went on sale starting Wednesday.

The resort has 280 "oceanfront swim-up suites" with decor inspired by fan-favorite Nickelodeon shows including "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "SpongeBob SquarePants," and "Dora the Explorer."
 
VF Corporation Announces New Programs and Actions to Advance Racial Equity
VF Corporation, one of the world’s largest apparel, footwear and accessories companies, announced that it is implementing new programs and actions to advance racial equity within the company and beyond.

Building on the company’s Council to Advance Racial Equity (CARE), VF is complementing its previous work by adding a combination of actions and programs, community partners and public policy initiatives to address opportunity gaps that Black and Brown Americans face in the areas of access to education, economic equity and environmental justice.
 
T-Mobile and the T-Mobile Foundation to Fund Big Ideas from Young Trailblazers
The third Changemaker Challenge, a nationwide contest that gives trailblazing young leaders the opportunity to take their ideas on how to build more connected, sustainable and informed communities to the next level, launched by T-Mobile, the T-Mobile Foundation and Ashoka.

Now through April 8, 2021, youth ages 13 to 18 with bold ideas focused on Technology, the Environment or Education can enter the challenge. T-Mobile leaders will select 15 winners to receive up to $15,000 in seed funding and the opportunity to participate in the three-day Changemaker Lab later this year. Including this third year of support, T-Mobile and the T-Mobile Foundation have invested nearly $1M in seed funding and mentorship for the changemakers.
