Wegman’s Switches to Eco-Friendly Bag Choices
Wegman’s grocery stores announced it plans to no longer offer single-use plastic bags by the end of this year and will start charging five cents per bag to encourage customers to switch to eco-friendly reusable bags.
“We are here to help our customers with this transition as we focus on doing what’s right for the environment,” Jason Wadsworth, category merchant for packaging, energy and sustainability at Wegmans, said. 

Going forward, all new Wegmans stores will offer only paper bags as a single-use bag choice. The paper bag charge will get donated to each store’s local food bank and United Way.

Chipotle Invests in Future Technologies with Cultivate Next
Chipotle announced the formation of Cultivate Next, a new venture to invest in Series B stage companies to amplify technology and innovation in the restaurant industry, and expand access and convenience for consumers.

Chipotle recently began testing an artificially intelligent robot to cook its tortilla chips, as well as radio-frequency identification (RFID) to trace and track ingredients in its restaurants. These steps are to both drive efficiencies and enhance the human experience.

Chipotle is also leveraging a new scheduling tool that uses machine learning to build more effective schedules and last year, made an investment in a leading autonomous delivery company, Nuro.

AMC Mobile App Accepts Cryptocurrencies
AMC Theaters announced its mobile app will now accept Dogecoin, Shibu Inu and other cryptocurrencies. The latest version of the AMC Theatres’ iOS and Android mobile apps accept crypto payments via integration with BitPay.

The company accepts crypto payments for movie tickets and concessions by utilizing BitPay and the customer’s crypto wallet. According to CEO of AMC Theatres, Adam Aron, crypto payments accounted for 14% of total online transactions.
