L’Oréal Enters the Metaverse
Both L’Oréal and Charlotte Tilbury have entered the metaverse that let people take their Web 3.0 style to new levels of detailed personalization. L’Oréal is working with Ready Player Me for the avatar platform’s first-ever multibrand beauty partnership with Maybelline New York. It also allows friends to shop together in real-time and interact with one another’s avatars.
The company says the launch taps into the growing demand for self-expression in the metaverse, allowing people to create personas that include five different makeup looks and five different hairstyles. This news marks the first time shoppers can create avatars with no download, signup, login or fee required.
Nestlé to Ban Marketing Sugary Products to Children
Nestlé will ban all marketing for children under 16 years of age on certain high-sugar products worldwide. The brand details that it will prohibit “direct advertising of confectionery and ice cream, as well as water-based beverages with added sugar to children below 16 years of age.”
The ban will apply to all online marketing, including social media, gaming platforms, and television commercials. Nestlé also says it will not collect data on minors and will only work with influencers above the age of 18.
Amazon Debuts New Robotic Assistant
Amazon recently debuted a new robot to assist warehouse workers with some of the more tedious aspects of the job. The company unveiled “Sparrow,” a robotic arm that can pluck items of varying shapes and sizes using computer vision and artificial intelligence. Previous iterations of robotic arms have been able to pick up boxes, but Sparrow is capable of handling items with varying curvature and size with the help of suction cups.
Sparrow can identify around 65% of Amazon’s product inventory, the company said. The robotic arm will take on repetitive tasks, freeing employees up to focus on other things and can also improve safety in the workplace.
