Marriott International is expanding its Marriott Bonvoy travel program by partnering with Chinese airline carrier Cathay Pacific. Marriott International loyalty members will gain access to Cathay’s extensive base of 11 million worldwide memberships, while Cathay members can expect the reciprocal benefit of being connected with Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of almost 8,800 worldwide hotels and resorts. Members of both travel and tourism giants will enjoy enhanced privileges and perks, including hotel redemptions, accelerated points conversions, limited status matches, and enhanced travel packages.
“Together with Cathay, the expansion of our global airline partnership program presents an opportunity to engage more members in the region as they go even further and explore new destinations around the world. By unlocking a new wealth of rewards and privileges with both loyalty programs, members are encouraged to partake in a broader variety of experiences and benefits while forging genuine connections with people and places as they learn more and feel more deeply in their next adventures,” said Alison Yang, Vice President, Revenue Strategy, Loyalty & Partnerships, Distribution, Greater China, Marriott International.
The partnership will allow for a two-way points conversion, which allows members to exchange Marriott Bonvoy Points with Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles and vice versa. Members can convert 3 Marriott Bonvoy points to 1 Asia Mile, while 2 Asia Miles can be converted to 1 Marriott Bonvoy point. Marriott Bonvoy loyalty members can redeem flight tickets and enjoy other perks like extra baggage or priority seating with their Points to Miles transfer.
A limited-time offer is also in place to allow members to fast-track status upgrades. For example, Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador, Titanium, Platinum, and Gold members can accelerate to Cathay’s Gold or Silver tier, while Cathay Diamond, Gold, and Silver members can accelerate to Marriott Bonvoy’s Platinum Elite status.
