American workwear brand Carhartt is pivoting further into sustainable practice and corporate responsibility by partnering with the branded resale company Trove. The partnership expands Carhartt’s Reworked program, inviting customers to mail in gently used Carhartt clothing so they don’t end up in landfills, reducing clothing waste. The Carhartt program reworks previously worn clothing with slight imperfections and ensures people who can use the workwear receive items. The initiative aligns with the brand’s environmental goals and encourages Carhartt’s clothing wearers to do their part in fostering a more sustainable planet.
The Carhartt Reworked program is currently accepting mail-in trade-in items, including the brand’s outerwear, overalls, bibs, shirt jacs, sweatshirts, hoodies, pants, and more. Accepted products are those with an original $50+ MSRP and must have been produced by Carhartt within the last 10 years. Other conditions and eligibility requirements apply.
Customers package and ship the Carhartt items to Trove, and once confirmed that the items have been received and meet Carhartt’s requirements, the customer will receive a digital gift card, redeemable at Carhartt’s physical and online stores.
Director of Sustainability at Carhartt, Gretchen R. Valade, stated, “This expansion represents another milestone in the evolution of Carhartt Reworked, giving hardworking Carhartt wearers across the country the opportunity to participate. With the help of Trove, this new digital trade-in method underscores our commitment to environmental impact and getting gently used gear that isn’t done working into the hands of those who need it.”
The Carhartt Reworked program was first piloted as a branded resale initiative at six stores in March 2023. Since then, the program has resonated with eco-friendly shoppers while extending the lifecycle of more than 43,000 garments and preventing over 68,000 products from ending up in landfills.
Gayle Tait, Chief Executive Officer of Trove, expressed enthusiasm for the mutual commitment to sustainability and appreciation for loyal Carhartt customers. Tait stated, “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Carhartt Reworked by introducing the Mail-in Trade-In program. This expansion will reward Carhartt customers for their loyalty while reinforcing the brand’s dedication to sustainability. Trove’s modular resale technology will enable Carhartt Reworked’s growth and evolution in branded resale.”
