Americans Airlines Introduces New Business Loyalty Program

American Airlines launched a new loyalty program this week designed to reward business customers and their employees who travel. With the AAdvantage Business program, companies earn one mile for every dollar spent traveling with American. In addition, the individual traveler receives one loyalty point. Earnings can be redeemed for American flights and services, or other travel rewards like hotel stays and car rentals.

Companies can earn twice as many miles using the program’s cobranded credit card for eligible American purchases, and travelers receive double the loyalty points as well. Companies also earn miles for other business purchases made with the card. Cardholders get preferred boarding and a complimentary checked bag on American flights.

There’s no minimum expenditure to belong, but companies must have at least five employees. Learn more about the AAdvantage Business program.

California Pizza Kitchen Celebrates App Redesign with Weekly Rewards

The restaurant chain California Pizza Kitchen gave its mobile app a customer-friendly makeover this week. Key upgrades include easier access loyalty reward redemptions, a pay-by-mobile feature, and personalized offers.

From now through November 22, the company is rolling out weekly offers to users who download or update the app. Perks include free menu items, bonus points, and discounts on future purchases. The offers automatically appear in the app wallet so guests can redeem them on the spot.

“Our new app allows our loyalty members to not only enjoy our innovative California-inspired menu items, but also provides them with new easy-to-use features for more customization, faster payment, and exclusive access to special offers,” said Ashley Ceraolo, Senior Vice President of Marketing at California Pizza Kitchen.

Sweetgreen Automates the Service Experience with Robot Salad Shooters

The restaurant chain Sweetgreen may have found a novel way to compensate for rising labor costs. Last May the company opened its first location with a robot that shoots salad ingredients into bowls moving on a conveyor belt. Human employees stand at either side of the robot during the process, preparing the ingredients and dolling up the salads for presentation to guests.

The company said the system cuts the number of workers involved in making a salad bowl in half.  Sweetgreen plans to center future locations around the robot concept.

“A lot of other companies are trying to figure out how to add automation to their experience and are not willing to start over,” said Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman. “I’m willing to blow the whole thing up.”
