Revolving Sushi Bar Concept Pleased with New Rewards Program
When citing second-quarter earnings, Kura Sushi USA, a subsidiary of Kura Sushi Inc., expressed satisfaction with its new rewards program. When compared to $43.9M in the prior-year period, an increase to $57.3M in sales in the latest quarter is a marked jump. The revolving sushi bar restaurant concept also announced an agreement with DoorDash, which will serve as its third-party delivery partner.
“In these difficult times, we are able to keep our menu prices the same as in-store dining, and we expect the DoorDash sales to be beneficial to the margins,” said Hajime Jimmy Uba, Kura Sushi President and CEO.
Uba also noted the convenience offered to customers ordering from the restaurant’s side menu with smartphones — even while sitting in-store beside a conveyor belt with sushi dishes gliding by.
“U.S. members are now responsible for approximately a third of our sales as compared to less than the quarter with our prior program,” said Uba. “Our recent analysis on average rewards members [is that they] spend 10% more per ticket, even after factoring in discounts, and visit 1.3 times per month.”
Stepping Up: Schnucks Gives $5 in Rewards Weekly for Loyalty Members
Grocery retailer Schnucks wants to help customers practice more healthy habits. During April, shoppers enrolled in the “Healthier Habits” program can earn $5 in Schnuck Rewards points weekly by logging 50,000 steps over seven days. The initiative is supported by FitLvl’s fitness app. Customers joining the wellness campaign also have the chance to receive additional Rewards points at random. The brand is giving double points on “better-for-you” products — produce, leaner meats, whole grains, etc. — purchased by those enrolled in Healthier Habits in early April.
This isn’t the first foray into encouraging customers and loyalty program members to make healthier choices. Schnucks partners with Foodshed.io, and when farm-fresh produce is delivered to the grocery chain’s stores, the Schnucks Rewards app sends an alert to users.
According to FMI — The Food Industry Association’s “Food Industry Contributions to Health and Well-Being,” nearly 70% of grocery stores advocate for healthier choices and nutrition when engaging with customers.
