Bird Canada Expands E-Scooter Operations in Edmonton, Launches Loyalty Program
 
Bird Canada has announced that it is expanding its e-scooter operations in Edmonton, making the fleet size one-third larger.
 
“We’re pretty excited about our partnership with (U of A),” Bird Canada associate general manager Nate Currey said in the above Edmonton Journal article. “They’ve designated corrals for us. There’s a bike path that runs north-south from Kingsway Mall area straight into the Brewery District. We’ve extended our territory to encompass that to help facilitate some folks who might be riding the north-south connection.”
 
Albertsons Looks to Hold Onto ‘Several Million’ New Shoppers
 
According to a Grocery Dive article, Albertsons gained “several million” new customers during the first quarter as restaurants and businesses closed, and the stay-at-home order started. The brand also plans to use its loyalty program to try and keep its new customers and engage its old customers even more.
 
“Here’s how I think about it: If you’re not traveling a lot, you don’t care about the airline loyalty program. When you’re traveling a lot, it matters a lot,” Albertsons CEO Vivek Sankaran said in an earnings call in the above Grocery Dive article. “And if you’re shopping a lot to buy products, eating at home a lot, a loyalty program matters, and it’s proving out to be true.”

Lowe’s Boosts Total Pandemic Assistance to Nearly $600 Million with Additional Bonus to Support Frontline Associates in August
 
Lowe’s has announced it will be giving an additional $100 million in bonuses to help employees with unexpected expenses and hardships. Full-time employees will get $300, and part-time and seasonal employees will get $150 on August 21.
 
“No one could have anticipated how long we would be navigating this pandemic together. As we approach the start of another school year, our commitment to support our hard-working associates will continue into August,” said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO, in a Lowe’s press release. “We are incredibly proud of how our stores, supply chain, and corporate associates have faced this pandemic head-on to solve challenges in our communities and care for our customers. We are grateful for their resilience, teamwork, and ongoing commitment to safety and are pleased to share this additional bonus to help with childcare, remote-schooling, and other general expenses they are managing during these tough times.”

Woolworths Reboots Woolworths Rewards as Everyday Rewards
 
Woolworths has announced that it is rebooting Woolworths Rewards to Everyday Rewards. According to the article, for every 2,000 Everyday Rewards Points earned, members can get a $10 discount at checkout or converting that into 1,000 Qantas Points.
 
Woolworths said in an email to its customers, quoted in the above Executive Traveler article, “It’s our mission to meet the everyday needs of our members, beyond groceries, and we’re continuing to evolve and expand our partners.”

PayPal Teams Up with CVS To Offer Touch-Free Payments
 
PayPal has announced that it is partnering with CVS to introduce touch-free payments to CVS. PayPal and InComm announced a partnership Thursday, July 30, to add a QR code payment system that will have a touchless payment checkout through PayPal and Venmo users using their mobile devices.
 
“In the midst of COVID-19, we have seen an incredible acceleration of digital payments and touch-free payments,” PayPal Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer Mark Britto said in a press release quoted in the above PYMNTS.com. “Companies of all types and sizes are looking for ways to maintain the safety of their customers and employees … QR codes complement these and provide retailers an additional payment method that furthers this touch-free mission.”
