Barefaced Launches AI-Enhanced Loyalty Program on Shopify

The skincare brand Barefaced last week launched a new loyalty program featuring gamification elements and AI-driven tools. Members of the No Sun Club can contribute original content such as reviews and tips to earn “Creator “status and recognition badges. The badges offer exclusive perks like early access to new products and invitations to brand events.

The club’s AI Skin Quiz creates personalized skincare routines based on individual skin type, concerns, and goals. The AI-powered Skin Coach feature provides ongoing advice and recommendations.

The new loyalty experience integrates with the brand’s current store on the e-commerce platform Shopify. Barefaced says members can seamlessly redeem rewards during shopping sessions. The brand plans to develop a marketplace for buying, selling, and trading rewards on Shopify.

"Emerging technologies promised deeper brand engagement, but sometimes they puzzled consumers,” said Jordan Harper, Founder & CEO of Barefaced. “We've distilled insights from both innovative and established brands to craft a truly consumer-centric loyalty experience on Shopify.”

Lenovo Sponsors Small Business Competition for Ads Starring Queen Latifah

Computer maker Lenovo last week announced an opportunity for small businesses to win a digital campaign with actress Queen Latifah as spokesperson. The offer is part of Lenovo’s Evolve Small initiative to support small businesses in the U.S. and Canada with grants, technology, and mentoring. The AI-customized ads will run online and on billboards nationwide.

“I’m excited to continue my partnership with Lenovo’s Evolve Small initiative for another year,” said Latifah. “The opportunity to support small businesses in real time without navigating the challenge of being multiple places at once is truly amazing, and I’m proud to be part of the work Lenovo has been doing to lift up women- and minority-owned businesses, and businesses owned by people with disabilities.

Lenovo is currently accepting submissions from business owners on the Envolve Small microsite.

Starbucks Enhances Employee Experience with New Benefits, Experiences

Starbucks hourly employees can look forward to a pay increase, faster vacation time accrual, and the first-ever North America Barista Championship in 2024.

Effective January 1, store employees will receive a pay increase of at least 3%. The increase starts at 4% for those with 2 to 5 years of experience and 5% for employees on the job 5 or more years. Starting in February, new hires will begin accruing paid time off after 90 days, down from 12 months.

Next year, employees can sign up for the new Siren Card, which Starbucks says offers a high-tech banking experience customized for its employees. Co-branded with Visa, the card is built on technology from the firm credit.ai.

The North America Barista Championship kicks off this February, with Starbucks baristas and shift supervisors from the U.S. and Canada competing for honors in craft, signature beverage, and creating a coffee-tasting experience.

Starbucks employees who work an average of 20 hours a week are eligible for most benefits. The company says hourly total cash compensation for employees has increased almost 50% since 2020.
