Starbucks Celebrates Record Q1 2024 Rewards Program Member Spend 

Coffee giant Starbucks experienced a record quarter in Q1 2024 (ending December 31, 2023) that included an increased Starbucks Rewards loyalty program membership, bringing the number to 34.3M U.S. active participants. This represents a 13% year-over-year increase for the quarter. 

To capitalize on the milestone achievement, the brand is leveraging its Deep Brew data and AI platform to drill down to specific Rewards member cohorts with plans to provide more relevant purchase incentives, creating an enhanced loyalty experience for program members.  

“We’re also laser-focused on ensuring our customers can personalize their orders in whatever way they want. One example is helping customers find products based on dietary needs,” says Starbucks’ CEO Laxman Narasimhan. 

Starbucks’ efforts are focused on its app. Over 30% of all purchases were made through its mobile order and pay functionalities, and the brand intends to increase new loyalty signups and encourage frequency with existing members by offering digital options. Allowing personal cup use and improved accuracy in wait times will further enhance the mobile ordering experience.  

Additionally, Starbucks is piloting a program with Gopuff in its micro-fulfillment centers to enable overnight order delivery. 

“We talk a lot about our personalization capabilities at Starbucks, but truly, that job is never done because as new technologies and capabilities come online, we are grabbing those and integrating them into our system,” says Brady Brewer, EVP and CMO at Starbucks.

Unlimited Coffee for Einstein Bros.’s Shmear Society Rewards Members. 

The new Unlimited Free Coffee program offered by Einstein Bros. Bagels is another perk for members of Shmear Society Rewards. Hot or cold, members can get a cup of Joe of any size with an in-app purchase or online. The reward is available daily and can save members $3+ per visit.
