PetSmart Refreshes Loyalty Program To Meet the Needs of More Pet Owners
PetSmart announced it has revamped its loyalty program to offer pet owners more perks when earning points. The pet superstore designed three new tiers for its Treats Rewards loyalty program, which boasts nearly 67 million members. According to a company email, the new program offers simplicity and flexibility while aiming “to incentivize more spending and build loyalty.”
The tiers are based on how much a customer spends throughout the year. Basic reward membership is geared toward pet owners spending up to $499 annually. The Bestie tier is for members spending between $500 to $999 a year, while the VIPP level is for PetSmart customers who spend $1,000 or more per year. Each membership tier offers 10 points for each $1 spent, twice the points on donations to PetSmart Charities®, and 1,000 points for completing a loyalty member profile. Bestie tier members can earn two additional bonus points for each $1 spent, and VIPP tier members can unlock four additional bonus points per $1 spent. In addition, members at all three tiers will receive personalized offers, free shipping for orders $49 and over, birthday gifts, and more.
Ninety-three percent of PetSmart purchases are connected to a Treats Rewards account. The pet retailer hopes to reach more customers, but Gen Zers seem to be tipping the scale in the pet retail market. According to a pass_by report, Gen Z visits to PetSmart jumped by 1.3% in the last five years. James Ewen, Vice President of Marketing at pass_by, noted that Gen Zers care about sustainability and ethical treatment of animals as well as in-store experiences that foster “a sense of community, social engagement, and shared values.”
