The grocery chain Safeway partnered with a popular YouTube personality to donate more than $450,000 in merchandise to local non-profit organizations. Philanthropist and content creator Jimmy Donaldson, known to fans as Mr. Beast, hosted a challenge in which a contestant won $10,000 for each day spent living at a Safeway store. To receive the money, the contestant had to select $10,000 worth of goods to donate to charity each day.

Recipients of the groceries, electronics, and paper goods included Feeding America, You Need Help Outreach Ministries, The Salvation Army Greenville, and Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County.

Safeway partnered with the tech firm Copia, which connects food donations to local charities, to identify and manage donation opportunities. Mr. Beast co-sponsored the challenge with Safeway, and goods were donated by brands such as Pepsi, Cambell’s, and Country Crock. A video of the event is available on the Mr. Beast YouTube channel.
